Member Spotlight - Carole Sammons Julius

Posted by Sean Riley on May 30, 2019 at 2:25 PM

Distinguished Past President, Carole Sammons Julius was born in Stoughton, and raised in nearby Brockton. She has lived in East Bridgewater since 1997. But her connection with the town goes back to 1988 when she started working in the East Bridgewater Public Library.

Carole Sammons Julius

Carole is married to current President, Dale Julius and their children are all graduates of East Bridgewater Public schools. Carole and Dale used to dine at T.J. Smith’s regularly on Thursday nights. And they would hear the Kiwanians at their meetings and she thought they always sounded like they were having so much fun. They knew many of the members and were often asked to join. They received an invitation to attend a meeting because their daughter was in the Key Club and they decided to accept the invitation. They really enjoyed themselves and felt like the Kiwanis Club provided a real feeling of community – just what they were looking for. So they both joined in May of 2009.

Since then Carole has been Secretary 3 times, under Past President Beth Resendes, Past President Tom Kerrigan and Past President Charlie Muise. She has also been Vice President, President Elect, President, and is now a Distinguished Past President.

One of the Kiwanis events Carole especially loves is the tree lighting every December. “It’s such a wonderful way for our community to come together and welcome the Christmas season, to put aside lists and obligations, and listen to beautiful music and enjoy the pretty lights. It’s a real Hallmark movie moment that I simply adore.” She also really loves Scholarship Night, when the graduating high school seniors who have been awarded scholarships from the club come to our meeting and tell us about their future plans.

Carole sums up her feelings about being a Kiwanian this way:

"I love the way Kiwanis maximizes my charitable dollars. If I make a donation of cash or time to something it’s not going to go very far but when I put money and time together with lots of other people’s efforts it can really make a big impact on the community. I’m proud of the support we give to our local food pantries and veterans, too."

Member Spotlight - Chuck Horan

Posted by Sean Riley on April 25, 2019 at 9:35 AM

For the past 28 years Chuck has lived in East Bridgewater with his wife Cindy where they raised their two children Rebecca and Tom. Chuck has been active in the community for many years during his involvement with the East Bridgewater Long Range Financial Planning Committee and with youth sports where he coached and served as a board member for the EB Youth Basketball Association.

As his children grew older and after they graduated from East Bridgewater High School, Chuck found that he had available time for things other than his children’s activities.

As a town resident he was aware of the Kiwanis Club and some of their community activities, but he did not fully understand the many ways that the Kiwanis Club was engaged in the community until he was invited to a Kiwanis Club meeting in 2009.

Chuck has been an active member of the Kiwanis Club for the past 10 years. He is a past president of the club and was chairman of the EBKC golf tournament committee and is the active chairman of the Field of Flags committee.

In addition to the Field of Flags and the golf tournament, the Kiwanis Club also coordinates the Christmas tree sales, pancake breakfast, and sponsors the annual Christmas on the Common event. Proceeds from all the club’s fund-raising events are donated to many youth and town organizations that help support our community.

Kiwanis would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in volunteering their time, treasure, or talent to join us as our guest at one of our meetings to better understand how we can collectively support our community. If interested feel free to contact us for more information.
